COVID-19 Q & A

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Children experience many of the same COVID-19 symptoms as adults, but they aren’t always able to communicate how they’re feeling. Knowing what to look for can help you understand when to bring your child in for COVID-19 screening.

Some of the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in children include:

  • Fever
  • Chest pain
  • Changes in taste or smell
  • Chills
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Fatigue
  • Severe headache
  • Cough that becomes productive
  • Nausea and vomiting

As you can see, many of these symptoms are common among numerous childhood ailments, including cold and flu. You know your child better than anyone. If you suspect something is amiss, please schedule a COVID-19 screening.

Who needs to get tested for COVID-19?

Children who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should get tested. Knowing your child’s status (and your own) can help you ensure your child receives the treatment they need. It also gives you the information required to prevent spreading the virus to others.

As the nation and the world continue to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19, travel restrictions remain in effect. If your family is planning travel, check to see if you need testing before leaving. One Family Pediatrics offers rapid PCR testing for your child and your entire family.

Your child might also need a COVID-19 test before joining an athletic organization, starting a new daycare or camp, or as a prerequisite for other activities. While the future of COVID-19 may still be uncertain, you can rely on One Family Pediatrics for COVID-19 screening, vaccination, and care.

Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe for my child?

A great deal of misinformation continues to circulate about the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine. The scientific community is clear that the available vaccines are both safe and effective. Research shows that adults and children who are vaccinated can fight off infection far easier than those who choose to forgo the vaccine.

You can select from the drive-thru or in-office vaccination. If you plan to come in, your child will receive a quick injection and then wait at least 15 minutes inside the office to ensure they don’t experience any adverse reactions to the vaccine. If your child has a history of certain medical conditions, you may be asked to wait 30 minutes.

One Family Pediatrics is proud to offer COVID-19 vaccines to children who are already patients and children within the local community. Vaccines are currently approved for kids five years of age and older.
